Classes are filling quickly!
Our kids sewing classes are for students ages 7 and up. Students will be using sewing machines and sharp objects, so we expect that they are able to listen and follow directions. If your child has never used a sewing machine, they need to start with a Learn to Sew class. This ensures that they learn how to safely use the sewing machine and tools in the studio and are comfortable threading the machine, winding a bobbin and are starting to understand how to land their stitches where they want them before joining the next level of classes.
If your child has completed the Learn to Sew class, or if they already know how to thread and operate a sewing machine safely, they can join any “Kids Sewing Studio” class. In these multi-level classes, students choose projects that are within their skill level to work on at their own pace. The Makery instructors support students in learning new skills in a positive environment. We encourage more advanced students to assist other students in problem solving. We help students learn how to turn their ideas into reality by teaching them real sewing techniques, how to follow or adjust a pattern or how to create a pattern themselves.
In all of our classes, it is our goal to allow children to be creative, learn sewing skills and techniques so they can become independent sewists and to learn how to persevere through mistakes and challenges so they can feel the pride of completing a project over time. We have high quality sewing machines and tools for the students to use as well as a selection of fabrics. All materials are included in the class tuition. Fee is split into 4 monthly payments upon registration.

What Our Students Are Saying
I am so glad I learned to sew! There are lots of creative people in my family and I love that I’m one of them and that I know how to make the things I want to wear and have been able to make gifts for people. I like to make clothes the most and stuffies as a break because clothes are usually more challenging. The teachers (especially Sarah) are so nice and have really taught me a lot.
I love the Makery and learning to sew! The Makery is a quiet, comfortable and welcoming space. I enjoy learning to make new things and being able to fix things too! I love all the patterns available at the Makery and all the creative things I can make. I love the teachers, they are patient, kind and helpful. My favorite day of the week is when I have sewing class, I would go everyday if I could!
Caitlin and her staff are fantastic! She taught me to sew and then my kids! She’s very patient and truly cares about the kids. She taught my kids to use the machine safely and independently to the point where they critique my sewing technique, “Mom, don’t put your fingers in the danger zone!”. Highly recommend.
My favorite thing about sewing is making friends and family gifts!
My daughter, who rejects most activities, came home super excited about sewing class. She loved every minute and was eager to go back! Caitlin is calm, patient, and very knowledgeable. Send your kids here!
I have been sewing at The Makery for almost 10 years now and I am so glad that I stuck with it. Especially over the past few years I have made some really good friends and learned to push through challenges, even when a project feels like it will never end. The Makery has been such an important place to me for basically my whole life, I am always encouraged to try my ideas (even when they are completely crazy) and I am so grateful for all the people (especially Caitlin) and experiences that this place brought me.
Sewing is one of my favorite things to do and when I started I never expected it to become such a big part of my life. The friends I have made in my classes are some of my favorite people and they make sewing even better. After sewing for a while I realized that I loved quilting and patchworking. I also discovered my passion for clothing design which inspired me to become a fashion designer when I grow up. Without sewing or the Makery I don’t think I would be the person I am today. I am extremely grateful to the Makery, Caitlin, Sarah, Marissa, and the entire Makery community.
Quilts are definitely my favorite, even though they’re really time consuming, and I love even turning regular patterns into quilted versions of the project, and my favorite thing I’ve ever made is my quilted backpack. Being able to turn an idea into a piece of art and something really creative has always been what I love most about it (and when I was younger I liked impressing people with my ability to sew headbands, scrunchies, handbags, stuffies and pajama pants). I have so many hilarious stories from sewing it’s hard to choose just one, but we all swap stories at class every week ( let us never forget Barbie math) and always have a great time together. I’ve made so many pals from the Makery even from when I was little. Ava, Lexi, Marley, Elin and I started sewing together a few years ago and our group has now been dubbed “the quit club”, hence the missing L on our quilt bin. I’ve done a lot of different things over the years, but I’ve stuck with sewing all the way through; just coming every week and working on ridiculously long projects never gets old! Thank you so much to Caitlin and Sarah, who’ve taught me over the years, and for inspiring us with everything fashion and quilting!!
