Our kids classes are for students ages 7 and up. Students will be using sewing machines and sharp objects, so we expect that they are able to listen and follow directions. If your child has never used a sewing machine, they need to start with a Kids Learn to Sew class. This ensures that they learn how to safely use the sewing machine and tools in the studio and are comfortable threading the machine, winding a bobbin and are starting to understand how to land their stitches where they want them before joining the next level of classes.

If your child has completed the Learn to Sew class, or if they already know how to thread and operate a sewing machine safely, they can join any    “Kids Sewing Studio” class. In these multi-level classes, students choose projects that are within their skill level to work on at their own pace. The Makery instructors support students in learning new skills in a positive environment. We encourage more advanced students to assist other students in problem solving.  We help students learn how to turn their ideas into reality by teaching them real sewing techniques, how to follow or adjust a pattern or how to create a pattern themselves. Our “Sewing Club” classes are by invitation only for advanced students.

In all of our classes, it is our goal to allow children to be creative, learn sewing skills and techniques so they can become independent sewists and to learn how to persevere through mistakes and challenges so they can feel the pride of completing a project over time. We have high quality sewing machines and tools for the students to use as well as a selection of fabrics. All materials are included in the class tuition.

For our Adult Drop in classes, no experience is necessary. We will teach you how to use a sewing machine or guide you through a new technique or pattern. If you want a more structured class, check out our Adult Classes, offered occasionally on weekday evenings.

The Makery is a sewing studio located in Scituate, MA. Our kids classes are for students ages 7 and up. Students will be using sewing machines and sharp objects, so we expect that they are able to listen and follow directions. If your child has never used a sewing machine, they need to start with a Learn to Sew friendly class. This ensures that they learn how to safely use the sewing machine and tools in the studio and are comfortable threading the machine, winding a bobbin and are starting to understand how to land their stitches where they want them before joining the next level of classes.

What Our Students Are Saying

Adorable little studio with an amazing instructor. Caitlin is extremely patient and oh so creative. I have learned so much and can’t wait for the next session of adult classes!

Our love for this adorable place just grows and grows! We started with a mother / daughter class which we both loved! My daughter has continued on and has been making all kinds of creative fun things. It is her favorite activity! We had her 8th birthday party there today and it did not disappoint!!! All the girls had a great time and made amazing emoji pillows (no goody bag needed!!!). It could not have been more reasonably priced or easier for us, all we had to do was show up! I am so grateful to have this studio in town!!!

Caitlin and her staff are fantastic! She taught me to sew and then my kids! She’s very patient and truly cares about the kids. She taught my kids to use the machine safely and independently to the point where they critique my sewing technique, “Mom, don’t put your fingers in the danger zone!”. Highly recommend.

I had so much fun at this class! Went in literally knowing nothing more than how to set up my machine. Caitlin chooses fun and easy projects to get started (I followed up this one with another of her sewing project classes) and gives so many tips to improve. I only wish I had more time to practice.
Tracy

Caitlin is amazing with kids. My girls have been loving their class and everything they’ve made.
Terri S

My girls love it! Caitlin is awesome! I can’t sew, now they can take care of all our buttons!
Justine M

My daughter, who rejects most activities, came home super excited about sewing class. She loved every minute and was eager to go back! Caitlin is calm, patient, and very knowledgeable. Send your kids here!
