The Makery is excited to have small group classes! Our studio is set up with 5 separate work stations for safe distancing and each student will have their own Tool Kit. Classes are in 6 Week Sessions.
You can still purchase Fabric and Project Kits in our Shop for shipping or curbside pick-up if you prefer to sew at home.
The Makery is a sewing studio located in Scituate, Massachusetts. We teach classes for children (ages 7 and up) and adults.
For our kids classes- if your child has never used a sewing machine, they need to start with a Kids Learn to Sew class. This ensures that they learn how to safely use the sewing machine and tools in the studio and are comfortable threading the machine, winding a bobbin and are starting to understand how to land their stitches where they want them before joining the next level of classes.
If your child has completed the Learn to Sew class, or if they already know how to thread and operate a sewing machine safely, they can join any “Kids Sewing Studio” class. In these multi-level classes, students choose projects that are within their skill level to work on at their own pace. The Makery instructors support students in learning new skills in a positive environment. We encourage more advanced students to assist other students in problem solving. We help students learn how to turn their ideas into reality by teaching them real sewing techniques, how to follow or adjust a pattern or how to create a pattern themselves.
In all of our classes, it is our goal to allow children to be creative, learn sewing skills and techniques so they can become independent sewists and to learn how to persevere through mistakes and challenges so they can feel the pride of completing a project over time.
For our Adult Drop in classes, no experience is necessary. We will teach you how to use a sewing machine or guide you through a new technique or pattern. If you want a more structured class, check out our Adult Classes, offered occasionally on weekday evenings.
