Sign ups and Safety
Space in all Classes is given on a first come/first served basis. Please register your child online to secure your spot. You may choose “pay by check” if you do not want to check out via PayPal. You may bring your check to the first class. If you have a gift certificate to redeem, please choose “Pay by Check” as well. Typically Learn to Sew classes run in 6-8 week sessions. Sewing Studio classes run by the Season (12-15 weeks). Once your child has completed a Learn to Sew class, they may enter any other Sewing Studio class that has space. Oftentimes the Learn to Sew group all want to continue, so that same day/time will turn into the next level of class for the following session. If your child already knows how to use a sewing machine, they can jump right into a “Kids Sewing Studio” class.
Sewing Classes are recommended for ages 7 and up. You know your child best. At The Makery, we use sewing machines, sharp scissors and pins. We stress and teach safety every step of the way. Your child must have the maturity and ability to listen, follow directions and use these items safely. If we find your child isn’t ready to handle these responsibilities, you will be refunded for the remaining classes and asked to wait to return until they are ready.
The Makery staff teaches students how to use the sewing machines and sewing notions (scissors, pins, iron, etc) in a safe way. However, occasional pin pricks and accidents do happen. If your child has a minor injury, first aid will be administered. By registering your child for classes at The Makery Sewing Studio, you are doing so with this knowledge and understanding. By registering your child for class, you are agreeing that you will not hold The Makery LLC, it’s owner or employees liable for any injury or accident that may occur to your child.
Please respect the other students and the teachers prep time by not allowing your student to come into the studio until their assigned class time and picking up promptly at the end of their class time. If there is an occasional need for an early drop off or late pickup, please communicate with us ahead of time.
Cancellations and Missed Classes
We follow the Scituate Public Schools policy on Snow Cancellations. If the Scituate Public Schools are closed due to weather, there will be no regularly scheduled classes that day. The session will be extended by one week in this case, or your child will be given make up opportunities.
We are closed for Scituate Public Schools Vacation weeks (Winter, Feb and April) and most national holidays. We may offer special vacation week workshops of events that will require a separate sign up. A list of scheduled dates off is in the class description online for each class.
If you know you will be missing a class for any reason, please let us know via email as soon as you can. Refunds/Discounts will not be given for missed classes. Make-up Classes are offered as a courtesy and not guaranteed. There is a self serve Make Up Class option on the website. We add options as we are informed about students missing classes. The Makeup class is free but you must register online to reserve your spot. Missed classes need to be made up during the same Session block (ex. Fall Session, Winter, Spring, etc). If you do not inform us ahead of time that your student won’t be in class then you aren’t eligible to make up that class. You are in charge of communicating to schedule make up classes.
Sewing Studio
When you register your child for a slot in Kids Sewing Studio, you own that spot for that season (Fall, Winter, Spring). Payments are expected to be prompt. Payment can be made in full at registration or you can choose to make monthly payments if that is better for your family. If you choose “split payments” at checkout, you will receive a reoccurring invoice via PayPal through your email. All materials* used during class are included in the class fee, so there are no other costs to the class.
*Occasionally we have to set limits on material usage when a students wants to make a lot of a particular project or is using an abnormal amount of materials in class. In general, your student is not allowed to cut a project during class and then take it home to complete it. If your student wants to mass produce an item (for gifts, sales or any reason) we will ask you to purchase the materials if they want to do this during class time.
If you wish to cancel your registration before the season has ended, a 2 week notice is required in writing (email) in order to receive a refund for any additional classes beyond the 2 weeks. If you cancel at least 3 days prior to the start of the class session, you will be refunded in full. For last minute cancellations, you will only be refunded if we are able to fill your spot with another student.
You will be given an opportunity to keep your day/time for the next session by email. If you do not reply to this email to inform us that you are keeping your spot, it may be filled during sign ups for that session. Please read our emails to keep up to date on these happenings. Add us to your contacts to prevent our emails from going into your junk folder.
Thanks!
